Westie "Foxy" Fox Obituary

The Life Story...

WESTIE ALTOMAZE FOX began on May 9, 1917 in Halifax County, North Carolina.  She was the first daughter born to Andrew Jackson Wilkins and Irene Baker Wilkins. Westie received her education from the Halifax County school system. She was introduced to Jesus Christ, and accepted Him as her personal Savior at the Saint Chapel Baptist Church in Enfield.

As Westie grew from a pretty little girl to a lovely teenager, the "tall, dark and handsome" Willie Howard Fox entered her life.  It was "love at first sight" for both of them, as "cool, calm & collected" met his match in "can't sit still, won't be quiet".  Their courtship led to an elopement, and from their union was birthed a son, Willie Reginald, and a daughter, Mildred Dozine.  Seeking a better life for themselves and their children, Willie and Westie moved to Brooklyn, New York in the 1940s.  He was employed as a mover by Ace Metal Company, while Westie was a dietitian at Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center for many years, eventually retiring.

Westie was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church for over SIXTY YEARS! Under the pastorates of Reverend Doctor Sandy F. Ray, Reverend Doctor Harry S. Wright and Reverend Lawrence Aker, she was an officer of the Virginia Club, and participated in Women's Day events, Bible Training Union (BTU), Christian Education Week, the Willing Workers and the Business & Professional Women's Auxiliary.  While Cornerstone was her home church, Bethany Baptist Church was always her "home away from home".  Her travels over the years with Willie (and their many friends from the Joint Board of Ushers), and her consistent presence led many to believe she was a member of Bethany!

On Sunday, April 6, 2014, Westie Altomaze Fox became a member of Bethany Baptist Church -- one month prior to the arrival of her new Pastor, the Reverend Doctor Adolphus C. Lacey!  Immediately drawn to each other, they developed an undeniable bond that could be seen and felt every time they were in each other's presence.  She loved her Bethany family, and her Bethany family loved her!

On Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at the age of 101, Westie Altomaze Fox reunited with her parents, her husband Willie Howard, her son Willie Reginald, and her brothers: Colby, Lloyd, Willie ("Bill") and Jesse.  Now, the Life Story of Westie Altomaze Fox continues through her devoted daughter Mildred D. Pittman; her loving grandchildren: Jennifer Pittman and Reverend E. Tyrone Pittman, Miles Fox and Deidre Fox; her sister Eloise W. Williams; her nieces: Marva "Winkie" Barbee, Catherine LaBohnne Carter and Beverly Renee Wilkins Darden; her nephew Jesse Gray "Dicky" Bullock Wilkins; her great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, special friends: Dorothy Crouch, Mabel Jenkins, Alberta Holt and Patricia Wynn; her Bethany family, and all those who affectionately called her "Nana"!
