Victoria Louise Tingling (née Morgan), 91, of Brooklyn, New York, passed away peacefully at SUNY Downstate Hospital on Wednesday, April 15, 2026.
Victoria, affectionately known as “Nelly” to her siblings and close friends, was born in the parish of St. Thomas, Jamaica, West Indies. She was raised alongside two brothers and one sister, all of whom predeceased her. She attended Hagley Gap Primary and Secondary Schools before relocating to Kingston, where she served with dedication in the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) for over twenty years.
During this time, she met her husband, James, who worked for the National Land Agency. Together, they raised eight children: Torkell, Oriel, Lorden, Angela, Lyndon, James, Sharel, and Sharleene.
As her family grew, Victoria transitioned into healthcare, working as a Certified Nursing Assistant and providing compassionate care to the elderly in various nursing homes in Jamaica.
Victoria experienced profound loss throughout her life. In 1984, she lost her son Lyndon. In the early 1990s, she migrated to the United States, where she lovingly cared for her daughter Oriel until her passing in 1997. In 1998, she lost her husband, James. In 2017, her daughter Torkell also passed away.
Despite these hardships, Victoria remained strong and devoted to her family. She took great pride in caring for and nurturing her grandchildren, especially Sheri-Ann, Christopher and Nikolaus.
Victoria will be lovingly remembered by her surviving children: Angela, Lorden, James, Sharel, and Sharleene. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Sheri-Ann, Keriann, Sheriann, Nikolaus, Christopher, Jhaoni, Malique, Jhalique, Myrai, and Majea, along with many other relatives and friends whose lives she touched.
Victoria was a woman of strength, grace, and quiet resilience. Her life was defined by compassion, humility, and unwavering dedication to her family. Her legacy of love and perseverance will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul.”
