Steven B. Sutton Obituary

Steven B. Sutton, also known as, Rahim, passed away on April 17, 2024, in his hometown of Queens New York. He was born to Louise Newsome Sutton and William Q. Sutton on September 5, 1964, in the same city that he would call home for the entirety of his life.

He loved to cook, eat, play chess, write poetry, and was quite the jokester.  He joked so much he earned the nickname of “Steve Stop” when he was younger.  He was not a saint, but he would do whatever he could for his family, always having our back.  Steve (Rahim) had a huge heart and was very sensitive to the problems of others, sometimes more so than his own. We as his siblings would often tell him to worry about himself first; however, he thrived when given the chance to help others. His hearty laugh and generous spirit extended beyond his family.

Professionally, Steve was a jack of all trades. He was not one to sit behind a desk.  He drove for a living which allowed him the freedom to move around, meet new people, and have peace of mind.  Steve (Rahim) was a talker.” He could hold a conversation on just about anything and about nothing at all.” He had the “gift of gab.”

He knew life was a gamble and he had an unreadable poker face unless he allowed his trademark side smile to slip through. Then you knew, he was once again up to some sort of shenanigan.  He faced adversity with laughter, his motto was “It’s better to laugh than to cry.”

He converted to Islam to find peace, may peace and blessings be upon him, for his journey is over.  May his peace increase.

Steve leaves a legacy of love, laughter, and perseverance.  Predeceased by his father, William Q. Sutton, mother, Louise Newsome Sutton, nephew, Desmond Tariq Sutton, and (sister-in-law), Michelle Sutton. He is survived by his siblings, William (Hakim), Yvette, (James), Lavonne, nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews, and a host of aunts and cousins.

Steve’s (Rahim) presence will be profoundly missed, but his memory will continue to be a beacon of warmth and joy for all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
