Veronika Mitchell was born January 8, 1965 in Harlem, New York, and was happily received by Bernice Paige Mitchell and Bernard Mitchell. She was the last of five children among: Leroy, Joyce, Robert, and Sameemah (a.k.a. “Selinda”).
Veronika loved reading and dancing, and won many awards in ballet and modern dance as a child. Her grades always made her parents proud. She later attended one of the top high schools in the United States, Brooklyn Technical High School. Her academic excellence led to her attendance at New York University where she majored in Computer Science.
She was smart, but surprised her family when the child who was terribly afraid of insects (especially flies) became one of New York State’s Most Dedicated as a Police Sergeant with the New York State Park Police.
Veronika was well known by her family members, friends, and co-workers as a helpful, supportive, and generous person. She was the best aunt ever to her thirty nieces and nephews. She remembered birthdays, graduations, and holidays. Veronika loved to shop! When she couldn’t think of anything to shop for for herself, she would shop for other people.
Sadly, on Saturday, September 5, 2020, Veronika left us leaving everything behind. The mercy and joy is that she will take all her good deeds of generosity and kindness with her. Hopefully, the Lord of us all will be well pleased. If only we all could be more mindful, not of what we have here, but what good deeds we take with us.
Veronika leaves behind to cherish her memory, her mom Bernice Mitchell; her sister Sameemah Mahmood; one brother-in-law Robert Alston, Sr.; her significant other Jaime Sequeira; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, co-workers and friends.
