Robert Jones, who was well known as “Bobby” was a 87 year old man that lived with purpose & determination up until the moment he physically left this earth. He was born on April 20, 1934 to Isabelle Gill. As he migrated to NYC from North Carolina he met Margaret Jones whom he married and stayed best friends with until his last breath.
He was “POP” to his children - Anthony, Lisa & Michael and a wonderful and active grandfather to Cassandra, Cierra, Cruz, Jason & Michelle. The lineage didn’t stop there - he was also a great-grandfather to Camryn, CJ, Chloe, Dylan, Kyle, Lauren & Sienna.
A kind soul that left his mark on everyone that he came in contact with. He loved sports (especially watching Cruz play basketball), discussing politics and telling stories of how he has seen his race progress over the years.
He gave the world an opportunity to understand what a black man could do & what a black man was worth. He broke stereotypes, sat through history that we can only articulate through a textbook, and smiled until the end.
From working at General Motors for many years to his last breath, he was hard-working with a sense of humor about life. Even though he was always thinking, he was definitely always thinking about anyone but himself first.
Robert was a dear friend, compassionate man, a beloved neighbor and a loving father & grandfather. He left the world not in darkness, but in light. He will be missed by ALL and we know he has gained his wings and is watching over all of us.
