Reverend Wesley Hodd Hadley was a foster child. He didn’t know much about his biological parents. He was raised by Emmett and Irene Thompson, and their aunt and uncle who was a Reverend.
Rev. Hadley was baptized in 1956. He attended Public School 25. He joined the Army on November 25, 1958 -- I believe it was Thanksgiving Day. He completed his high school education and was honorably discharged on February 25, 1962.
Around 1976, he joined Emmanuel Baptist Church and felt the calling under Reverend Whitaker. He became Assistant to Reverend Harris in the 1980s. He was licensed to preach on February 8, 1981 at Greater Calvary Baptist Church, and was ordained there in May 1988.
Rev. Hadley attended Medgar Evers College. He received a certificate from New York Theological Seminary. He began his employment at St. John’s Home for Boys in 1984 as a chaplain, and was later promoted to Counselor. He retired around 2003.
He became the leader of Troop 4 at Emmanuel Baptist Church, and spent many of his weekends on camping trips. He started a baseball team and named it THE EMMANUEL BAPTIST CHURCH BOMBERS. He received a certificate from Fordham University’s Big Brothers and Big Sisters program.
Rev. Hadley was married to Patricia Davis Hadley for 53 years. They had one son David Hadley, and one grandson Cheal Hadley. They also raised their two nephews: Lonnie and Reggie Davis. Rev. Handley had two sisters: Caldonia and June Hadley; two sisters-in-law: Alicia Davis Bell and Alma Davis; three brothers-in-law: Liston, Alrick and Olassie Davis; five nieces: Beverly Capitani, Carina Bell-Daly, Doris Francis, Olessa Davis-Fleury and Dionne Davis-Halbert; three nephews: Robert Thompson, Eric Bell and Derrick Bell; and a host of other relatives and friends too numerous to name.
