Pearl Ellerbee Moore was born on the 27th of January, 1928 in Bennettsville South Carolina. She was the fifth daughter of the late Cornelius Ellerbee and Lottie Watson. Pearl attended Marlboro High School in Bennettsville. During her early years working in the fields of South Carolina, she was known to be a hard and industrious worker. One of her sisters noted that Pearl was able to pick more than 400 pounds of cotton a day. While still living on the farm Pearl met, and eventually married the late Clarence Moore.
During their marriage in Bennettsville, two sons were born to Pearl and Clarence; an older son, the late William Moore (who preceded her in death), and the younger surviving son Edward Moore. Pearl and Clarence eventually migrated to Brooklyn, New York, where, immediately after her arrival, Pearl began working in the garment district; she labored there until her retirement.
Not long after arriving in New York, Pearl and her two sons began attending the Holy Trinity Baptist Church under the late Reverend T.S. Harten. Pearl was eventually baptized and remained a member until the death of pastor Harten. In 1969 Pearl joined Faith Chapel Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Robert Hardman. Pearl was a faithful worker in every church she attended. She was a member of many church auxiliaries, was the chairperson of the Trustee Board, and held the honor of being designated the Church Mother. A loving sister, spiritual and natural mother, cherished aunt, Pearl was one of the foundational leaders that united the Ellerbee family. Her love, presence, and warmth will be missed by all.
Pearl leaves to celebrate her home-going one sister, Ramona Ellerbee Fields, a son, Edward Moore (and wife Edwina Moore). She also leaves grandsons, William Jhmar Moore, David Moore, Jason Moore, Paul Moore, and Edward W. Moore, Jr.; granddaughters Lisa Moore, Monique Moore, Shernita Moore-Glasgow, Stephanie Watkins; great grandchildren, Nikayla Moore, Jaylen Moore, Diana Moore, and Volorie Moore; goddaughter Antonia Williams, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, cousins-in-law, and Christian family.
