Obie Butler Obituary

Today we celebrate the life of Obie Butler also known as Boonie. Obie will be remembered for his empathetic, gentle, calm, and humorous personality. Obie Butler was born in Jacksonville, Florida on March 2, 1950. He departed on February 28, 2024, at Interfaith Medical Center, Brooklyn, New York.

Obie was born to parents Ossie Mae and Louis Butler. Obie and his family moved to Brooklyn, NY in 1953. Obie was educated in the New York Public School system. After high school he attended Computer Technician school. Obie had various jobs before starting a career with the NYPD Traffic Division. In 2012 Obie started living the retried life and moved to North Carolina.

Obie loved reading, watching the news, and keeping up with current events and entertainment. His favorite sports teams were the New York Knicks and New York Giants, no matter how many times they lost. He also was a New York Mets fan.

In 1985 Obie met the love of his life, Onetha AKA Nita. They married and were blissfully in love. They became the couple that had the same desires, goals, and values. They experienced life’s joys and challenges together.

Obie Butler leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Onetha Moore-Butler; three daughters, Monique Moore, Shernita Moore-Glasgow (Rhon), Lisa Manley; three sons, Jordan Moore, Kye Moore, and Leroy Thompson; grandchildren, Cordell McCall, Iyyub McCall; one great-grandchild, Malachi McCall; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
