Norwood Henry Hughes, Jr. was born November 23, 1955 to Norwood H. Hughes, Sr. and Dorothy Clifton Hughes. He grew up in Brooklyn, New York in the Sumner Projects. At the age of eighteen, he enlisted in the United States Marines Corps where he would spend the next twenty-six years of his life. When his time in the military came to an end, he would spend the next twenty-four years working as a Correction Officer at Lorton Correctional Complex in Lorton, Virginia.
Soon after, while visiting family in New York, he would reconnect with the love of his life, Audrey Renea Ervin. They would marry three years later, and begin their new life together in New York. Norwood loved his wife, kids and family more than anything. He was truly one of a kind, and, if you knew him, you knew what love was, because of him. It goes without saying that he is loved by many, and will be deeply missed.
On Monday, May 17, 2021, Norwood H. Hughes, Jr. was called home to be with the Lord. He is survived by his wife Audrey Renea Hughes; all of his children: Lakisha, Lisa, Norwood, Theresa, Maurice, Dedrick, Alysha, Christine, Tommy, and Jordan; his siblings: Linda Hughes, Vanessa Hughes, Allen Hughes, Katrina Hughes and Jimmy Hughes; his godmother Diane; many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, one great-grandchild, other relatives, colleagues and friends.
