Nikia Rebecca Webster was born August 26, 1981 in Brooklyn, New York to Jerome Ferguson and (the late) Wynett Webster, and she was a dedicated mother to her beloved son, Jaylen Richards. Jaylen was everything to Nikia and she protected him like a lioness protects her cub.
Nikia had an uncanny ability to connect with people in a deep, meaningful way, and everyone who met her quickly became a confidant and friend. She lived life to the fullest and enjoyed the simplest, most pleasurable things in life … spending time with family and friends, cooking, entertaining, traveling, and getting something on sale (with a coupon!).
She was always at the center of activity and enjoyed organizing family gatherings, holiday events, family vacations, bake sales and fundraising for causes like Breast Cancer Prevention, Autism Awareness and AIDS Advocacy. Nikia was always the first person to support and be present at the life events, special moments and business ventures of family and friends.
Nikia joined Con Edison in 2006 and had an incredibly successful career. She started at Con Edison in an entry level position, and through initiative, hard work and continued education, she advanced up the ranks of the company and was in training to become a Senior Energy Service Representative at the time of her tragic death on October 24, 2019.
Nikia was an entrepreneur at heart, and in addition to her full time job at Con Edison, she was the sole proprietor of a successful and rapidly- growing travel agency business, Adore Paradise Travel.
Nikia is preceded in death by her mother Wynett Webster and grandfather Owen Webster. She is survived by her beloved son Jaylen Richards; her father Jerome Ferguson; her grandmother Alice Webster; sister Ida White; brother Jerome White; aunts: Diane Webster-Varjian, Millicent Freeman and Suzette Edwards-Babb; uncles: Oval Webster, Michael Webster and Jeffrey Varjian; and her many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and her dog, Sky -- all of whom she loved and touched deeply.
Nikia will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts!
