Naomi was born on November 6,1925 in West Palm Beach, Florida to John Mackey and Jenise Pender. She was the eldest daughter of three children, sister Ruth Williams who preceded her in death in April 2004 and her brother Samuel Mackey who also preceded her in death during childhood. She was affectionately known to everyone as NaNa. She spoke her mind and was very big on family. Naomi enjoyed sewing, playing card and board games like Pokeno, Bingo and a regular scheduled scratch off ticket. She also loved vacationing and family gatherings as well as sharing her life’s story. She liked watching Family Feud, Tyler Perry movies, the church channel and reading her bible verses. Naomi was a great cook who also loved to bake pies and make her favorite Pineapple Coconut Cake.
During her twenties, Naomi moved to Harlem, New York from Miami, Florida where she worked at a can factory as well as Macy’s, Gimble and Alexanders during the holidays as a gift wrapper. She also received her certification as a nurses aid/home health aid which she worked for many years until she retired. She fell in love with Everett Woodside who preceded her in death in 2014.
They were married on December 28,1947 and out of their union three beautiful daughters were born. Diane, Rosetta and Juanita whom preceded her in death in 1988. Her dedication to care giving led her and Everett to become legal guardians of their deceased daughter Juanita Patricia Woodside’s children. The children were Lakai who was ten years old, Lawanna who was seven years old and Lavon who was eight months old.
On Thursday July 30, 2026, Naomi Woodside went on to glory and peacefully departed this life surrounded by family and friends. She was the Matriarch and the pillar of strength of her family, who was grounded deeply into her faith. She was a loving Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother and friend who shared lots of wisdom and heartfelt stories and will be deeply missed forever.
Naomi leaves to cherish her memory, Diane, Rosetta, Lakai, Lawanna and Lavon; her Grandchildren: Shadeena, Devon, Kwamena, Ama, Jerad, Akil, Theon, Ismail and Melissa; her Great-Grandchildren: Deasean, Devon Jr., Akiva, Packow, Darian, Asiana, Donte, Tyriq, Cory Jr., Tasir, Toshani, Lylah, Ismail Jr., Isaac, Nyrie, Idris, Imon, Kendall, Nylah, Trent and Nyaire; her Great-Great Grandchildren; Ryleigh and Khylen; her Niece and Nephews; Rhonda, Elgernia, Ronald, Hilton, Darvin; and a host of other relatives and friends
