Myrtle Lenore McLeod was born on April 21, 1936, on the sunny island of Tobago to John Uriah McLeod and Pearl Nurse. She passed away peacefully on Monday, February 3, 2026, at the age of 89.
She was the last surviving member of her siblings: Peter McLeod, Barbara McLeod, Ermine Wright, Grace Ann McLeod and Cynthia McNish.
Though Myrtle had no children of her own, she was “Mother” and beloved Auntie to her nieces Valerie, Christine, Heather, Charlotte, and Pearl, and nephews Cory, Hans, and Dr. Michael McLeod. Her love extended beyond bloodlines—she nurtured, guided, and inspired generations.
Myrtle’s early years were spent in Tobago, where she attended Bishop Anstey High School. Education was not simply her profession; it was her calling. She devoted more than 30 years to teaching at Moulton Hall Methodist Elementary School in Trinidad before retiring in [year]. Her commitment to her students was extraordinary. She routinely sacrificed her Saturdays to provide free tutorial sessions for children who needed extra support. After each session, she lovingly prepared and provided a meal for them before sending them home. For Myrtle, teaching was an act of service.
Her brilliance, creativity, and disciplined intellect defined her life. Even beyond her formal career, she remained a lifelong learner. Myrtle later enrolled at The University of the West Indies (UWI), where she pursued studies in Theology. Her faith was central to her identity. She was an active and devoted member of Mount Bethel in Trinidad, The Church of the Living God and here in Brooklyn], New York where she worshiped faithfully and served wholeheartedly. Myrtle was truly a woman of God—steadfast, prayerful, and generous in spirit.
She found joy in reading, mentoring young people, engaging in thoughtful theological discussions, and nurturing both mind and soul through education and faith.

Her later academic pursuit of Theology at The University of the West Indies reflected her lifelong commitment to growth. She combined scholarship with spirituality, embodying both intellectual strength and unwavering faith.
Her legacy lives on in the countless students she taught, the family she nurtured, and the faith community she strengthened.

She leaves to celebrate her life her cousins Janet Rawlings, Carol Brathwaite Joseph and her beloved nieces Valerie, Christine, Heather, Charlotte, and Pearl; her nephews Cory, Hans, and Dr. Michael McLeod; grandniece Taneka, and great grandniece Tamia Harrigan, great grandnephews Tyrin Brewster, Tyler Harrigan, Taylor Harrigan and extended family members; former students; church family; and friends whose lives were enriched by her presence.
