Muriel A.Y. Thompson Obituary
Muriel Thompson was born in November of 1945 in Bridgetown, Barbados, and was peacefully called home on February 2, 2026 surrounded by friends and family in Brooklyn, New York.
Muriel was the first daughter of Evelyn and William Pierrepointe, known fondly as Mark. She attended Cave Hill Elementary School and Queens College in Barbados. At the age of 14, Muriel, her sister Monica and their mother Evelyn immigrated to the U.S. and made a home in Brooklyn, where she graduated from Girls High School. Some years later, she received her Bachelors from Long Island University.
During this time, her future husband Paul was completing his military service. They had first met when she was 16, introduced by their mothers, who were friends since living in Barbados. They nurtured a relationship through letters and his limited leave, eventually marrying in 1966. Together, Paul and Muriel raised two children: Brian and Michele. Muriel modeled for her children a life anchored in selflessness, kindness and unconditional love.
Muriel was a dedicated and compassionate registered nurse at various hospitals, ending her career with the Visiting Nurses Association of Brooklyn (VNAB) and Guildnet. In retirement, she filled her days with her favorite things: gardening, caring for her mother and husband, and helping to raise her five grandchildren. Muriel also loved traveling throughout Central America and the Caribbean with her family.
Muriel’s love for her friends was unquestionable. She spent much of her time catching up with them on the phone and venturing out with her neighbor Lindy. On her last birthday, family and friends gathered to throw her a surprise party celebrating her 80 phenomenal years of life. Following the event, she told her granddaughter that she “felt so loved.”
Muriel is predeceased by her parents Evelyn and William; her husband, Paul and her brother-in-law, Michael. She is survived by her sister, Monica; her brother, Grantley; sister-in-law Georgette; her children, Michele and Brian; her son-in-law Franklin; daughter-in-law, Shona; Grandchildren: Nyah, Antonio, Camilo, Oliver, and Naomi; Nieces: Colette and Deanna; nephew-in-law Paul and great-nephew, Peyton.
