Michael Richardson Obituary

Michael Lawrence Richardson was born August 23, 1952 to Suester Mae Blanding Walters Richardson and King Osteen Richardson in Manhattan, New York.  During his lifetime, he lived in both Brooklyn and Manhattan.  He departed this life on Saturday, October 10, 2020.

Michael was raised with his mother, father, two brothers and a sister in a loving Christian home in Brooklyn, New York where he attended public schools, graduating in 1970 from Boys’ High School.  He then graduated from Hunter College; studied at the University of Phoenix (Bachelor of Science, Class of 2015); studied at Alchemy Study 2016; and studied at USUI Reiki 2019.

One of his first jobs was working at Hunter College in the Lighting and Staging Department.  Later, he worked for Downstate Hospital as Supervisor of Customer Billing, then New York State Liquor Authority as Supervisor of the Licensing Department and Supervisor of the Records Department.  He was a dedicated Representative and Monitor for the Civil Service Employees Association, Inc. (CSEA) Local 1000 Union.

Michael had many hobbies and interests.  He was an avid photographer and music lover.  He had a sense of humor and loved to tell jokes.  He was an entrepreneur, marketing various health products.  In recent years, he was engaged in Internet Marketing of various products.

Michael belonged to two churches; in his youth, the Bethel Baptist Church of Brooklyn, and as an adult, the Unitarian Universalist Church, First Unitarian Congregational Society in Brooklyn for thirteen years, serving as an usher and social activist.  As an adult, he enjoyed the wonderful worship services and warm fellowship with his fellow congregants. 

Michael was a member of the Freemasons’ Phoenix Lodge 205, Brooklyn.  He was a member for fifteen years, and served as Worshipful Master and Treasurer.

Michael was preceded in death by his father King O. Richardson, and his sister Sharon Anita Richardson.   Those left to cherish his memory are: his mother Suester M. Richardson; two brothers: Osteen King Richardson and Rev. Kenneth O. Richardson (Donna); four nieces: Amber Richardson, Ariella Richardson, Keara O. Richardson and Kea O. Richardson; three great-nieces: Melasia Wilson, Makiyah Wilson and Makayla Wilson; cousins: Barbara Felder & Family, Willean Jordan & Family; Vincent Bracey & Family; Juanita Buchanan (Aubrey) & Family; Joann Stark & Family; Leslie Toleson & Family; Edna Hattibell Perkins & Family, Frances Eloise Hargrove & Family; Patricia Okeema Watson & Family; Rev. Herbert W. Watson (Rochelle) & Family; The Blanding Family; one grandaunt Amanda Richardson & Family; Catherine Richardson and Carolet Richardson Thomas (Edward) & Family; and a host of other family members and friends.
