Mary Etta Green was born on September 12, 1944, in Ashville, Alabama and departed this life on March 28, 2025. She was born to the union of Roy Curtis Beason Sr. and Florine Bothwell Beason. She was the fourth child born to this union, and was preceded in death by her parents.
Mary Etta married the love of her life, Rochester Green, on September 4, 1971, in Brooklyn, New York. Mary Etta and Rochester were married for over 40 years before his untimely passing in 2014. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Maxine Beason and Bennie Mae Whisenant, and brothers, Joe Louis Beason, Roy Curtis Beason, and George Lankford Beason. Mary Etta is survived by one sibling, Alice Faye Beason Thomas, of Long Island, New York.
Mary Etta was a graduate of Ashville High School in Ashville, Alabama (the Class of 1962), and later migrated to Brooklyn, New York in search of better opportunities. She had a love for fashion and cosmetics, and became a licensed cosmetologist in New York. As she progressed in her career, Mary Etta decided she wanted her own beauty salon. Soon thereafter, she had the salon of her dreams built in her home basement. Mary Etta loved New York, but as she grew older she longed for Alabama and ultimately purchased a home there. Over the next few years, she and Rochester would split their time between New York and Alabama.
Mary Etta and Rochester enjoyed traveling, and entertaining friends and family. Although no children were born to their union, they had a special love for all of their nieces and nephews, and loved them as their own. Mary Etta loved her family and did everything she could to support and encourage everyone. Mary Etta was a happy, fun, and fun loving person. She was quick witted, and had a beautiful and contagious laugh. She had a smile that could light up a room, and always enjoyed a good joke. When walking into her home, it was guaranteed that one would be welcomed by the sound of her laugh, and the smell of a delicious meal. Although she was not confrontational, she was quick to express and defend herself. She was an honest person and lived her life with integrity. Mary Etta always spoke her mind and was very transparent.
Mary Etta lived a life full of love, was dedicated to her family, and had a deep connection to her roots. She cherished her relationships, lived her life with integrity, and pursued her passions. Mary Etta held a special place in the hearts of everyone who knew her, and leaves a host of friends and relatives who will love her eternally.
She will be forever in our hearts and dearly missed.
