Marva Semple-Corte Obituary

Born to Robert Alexis Semple and Frances Esthula Hyman Semple on February 4, 1956 in Zeeburg, Guyana, South America, Marva was the first of eight children.  After following her family to the United States in 1985, Marva courted and married John Corte in October of 1986 and settled in Brooklyn, New York.

Marva enjoyed a successful career in the banking industry with Chemical Bank (1986-1995), Chase Manhattan Bank (1995-2005), and retired from JP Morgan Chase in 2013.  Marva loved the Lord and was an integral figure at Duryea Presbyterian Church for many years.  She served as Chair of the Stewardship and Music & Worship Committees, Co-Chair of the Rally of the Flags, Former Clerk of Session, and Elder -- tenures that spanned over twenty years.  She also sang in the choir and always had a word of encouragement for all she encountered.

She enjoyed assisting others, but most of all, Marva LOVED her family.  She was always present at every family occasion.  We will miss her early Saturday morning phone calls a.k.a. “me just a check in with you bai or gal.”

Marva was surrounded by family when she was called home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 25th, 2019 at Life Path Hospice in Ruskin, Florida.  She was preceded in death by her father Robert Semple, Sr.

All who knew Marva will cherish her memory and caring nature, including her sisters: Eulene Stewart, Donna Semple and Sharon Semple Hayes; her brothers: Bob Semple, Clarence Semple, Robert Semple, Jr. and Mark Semple; her sisters-in-law: Sandra Lawrence Semple, Sherydan Greenidge Semple and Robertha Alleyne Semple; a brother-in-law James Stewart, Jr. She was the aunt of: Deniece Parkinson (Delon, Jr.), Dionne Fontanelle (Alexandra and Ava), Bob Semple, Jr., Donovan Turner, Clarence Semple, Jr., James Stewart, III, Malcolm Semple, Roberta Semple, Emani Stewart, Ariel Semple, Ryan Stone, Chey Semple, Lauryn Hayes, Maya Burford, Alex Semple, Robert Semple, III and Carter Semple; and the niece of George Hyman, Lucretia Alexander, Edward Hyman and (the late) Wilton Hyman; and godmother, cousin and dear friend to many.

Our beloved Marva Semple-Corte was called home
to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Though she is gone,
her love and caring spirit will forever be in our hearts!
