Maria Juliana Ward Daniels was born on October 28, 1957 in Brooklyn, New York to (the late) Charles Earl Ward and Helen Maria Williams Ward.  From the very beginning, Maria carried the strength of her roots and the warmth of her family wherever she went.

In the early morning hours of Monday, February 16, 2026, Maria peacefully departed this life, leaving behind a legacy of love, resilience, and devotion to those she cherished most.

She was a loving mother to her son, Randy Gonzalez, who was the center of her world.

She also leaves behind her beloved siblings: Teresa Ward, Charles Errol Ward, Jason Ward, and Courtney Ward; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, church members, and dear friends who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts.

Part of Maria’s extended family grew from her relationship with the Mount Pisgah Baptist Church family.  Although Maria joined St. Paul Community Baptist Church back in 2016, she was in regular attendance on Sundays at Mount Pisgah, both in Brooklyn and in Queens. Her love for her (chosen) pastor, Bishop Johnny Ray Youngblood, drew her to the 6:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. services.  Even if she took frequent naps during service, she still wanted to be in the house of the Lord, especially when it was time to welcome the visitors.  Her affinity for Mount Pisgah was so strong, that although her body was giving out from severe illness, Maria requested to be at church the very Sunday morning of the same night she transitioned … just after midnight.

Maria had a special love for family gatherings, where laughter filled the room and stories were shared with joy.  She especially enjoyed playing Spades, and was always ready for a good game surrounded by family.  She adored babies, and could happily spend the entire day caring for them, giving her time, patience, and endless affection. 

Maria’s presence was a steady light in the lives of those who knew her. Though she is no longer with us in person, her love will continue to live on through the family she cherished so deeply.
