Madeline Johnson Obituary

Madeline Johnson daughter of (the late) Mary Ella Oliver and William Oliver was born on March 22, 1939 in Brooklyn, New York. On March 8th (14 days before her 80th Birthday) she departed this life at the Schulman and Schachne Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center after a long suffering of Alzheimer’s Disease.

Madeline graduated from Prospect Heights All Girls High School. She worked for the telephone company, she held a job here and there until she began her career as a Senior Police Administration Aide with the New York City Police Department where she retired in 1996 after 23 years of dedicated service and hard work.

Madeline accepted Christ as her personal savior at an early age. Later she joined the Brownsville Community Baptist Church, where she remained a faithful and devoted member until her health failed and prevented her from attending church regularly. Her service of ministry is SINGING! She was member of the Temple Choir where she rightfully took her place as an Alto.  She sang with the Mass Choir, the Women’s Day choir and any other choir that was singing. She made sure her black skirt, white blouse, black blazer, pearls and a fresh pair of stockings were always clean and ready even when it wasn’t her Sunday to sing. She was a student of the Brownsville Community Baptist Church Bible Institute where she graduated with 4 years of certification; however, she continued many more years taking advanced level classes. She was also a Children’s Sunday School teacher.

On June 24th, 1958 she married Lawrence R. Johnson and from this union they had 3 beautiful joys of her life (the 3 Tees).....Tanya, Troy and Tracey.

Madeline was a woman of grace and beauty. She had an amazing friendly spirit, she spoke to everybody. She had an outstanding talent for knitting and crocheting which became more than a hobby. I’m sure many of you still have those baby bunting sets. She also loved reading a good ole James Patterson novel while sucking on peppermint balls and another one of favorite past times was running around with Robert and Darlene looking for Flea Market bargains.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her three children: Tanya Johnson, Troy Johnson (and his wife Tanya Lewis-Johnson) and Tracey Johnson; eight grandchildren: Terea, Stefan, Tyrell, Tempestt, Kyle, Keenan, Kayla and Christian; two great grandchildren: Jamair and Kyleigh; four godchildren: Chris, Cherise, Steven and Kowonty; her one and only 1st cousin Edward Oliver, a longtime friend of over 60 years Mildred Hines and a host of relatives and friends too many to mention.
