Luz Walcott Obituary

Luz Maria Walcott was born to Anita and Julio Lopez on November 2, 1945, in Colon, Panama. She has three sisters: Mercia, Conchita, and Sheila (deceased) and two brothers: Cecilio (deceased) and Maximo (deceased). Her family migrated to Brooklyn, New York in September of 1958. Luz attended Prospect Heights High School. She then attended Kingsborough Community College and graduated with her Nursing Degree in 1974.

Luz worked all her life in the nursing field. She started as a Registered Nurse, then she became a Nursing Supervisor and because she was so great at her job she eventually became Director of Nursing at Governor’s Hospital. She loved to make it known “I’m a Nurse”.

Luz was loved by everyone, her heart and home was always open to all. She loved to decorate her home for all the holidays and have big BBQ’s in the summer. Luz always planned trips, vacations and adventures for her children and all the other children in her family and extended family.

Luz married Gregory Walcott on October 30, 1996. They shared their lives through good times and bad times through sickness and health for 22 years.

Luz had three children Joy, Hope, and Sheldon (who died at childbirth), one adopted daughter Hazel, and four stepchildren Melissha, Irvin, Mervin, and Kiel. Luz had 13 grandchildren: Joyla, Jayda, Jayden, Jaycob, Noah, Zachary, Anjali, Isaac, Isaiah, Elijah, Nevaeh, Matthew, and Mark.

Luz is survived by her husband Gregory; three children: Joy, Hope, and Hazel; son-in-law: Jorge; her mother-in-law: Agnes; two sisters: Mercia and Conchita; two sisters-in-law: Lynn and Emma; two brothers-in-law: Frankie and Winston; three nieces: Carolyn, Kalim, and Tamika; three nephews: Kyle, Anthony and Michael; her great-nephews: Barry, Denzil, Daniel and many more great-nieces and great-nephews.   Plus a whole host of extended family and friends.

On Wednesday July 27, 2018 at 3:00pm in the afternoon, Luz went home to be with the Lord. Her faith never wavered despite her pain and suffering. She left a mark on everyone’s life that she came in contact with. Luz Walcott will be greatly missed but never forgotten.
