Lulu Broome Obituary

Lulu Mozelle Broome was born in Brooklyn, New York, to Edward and Cora Carr on October 25, 1922. She was the fifth of their eleven children.
Lulu was an excellent student and graduated from Girls High School In Brooklyn, NY. A notable alumna, the late Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm, remembered that students came to Girls High from every part of Brooklyn because the school was so highly regarded. It was there that Lulu’s love of words was cultivated. In her senior year, one of her teacher’s gave her the nickname, Miss Webster.
One of Lulu’s happiest moments was when she joined the Concord Baptist Church family. She served as a beloved Sunday School Teacher, Deacon, and it was where she met the love of her life, Gilbert A Broome.
Gilbert and Lulu were married in 1952 and from this union they were blessed with their only child Lydia A (Broome) Crews.
Lulu was the consummate NYC elementary school secretary. She was an educator at heart whose competence, reliability, and professionalism elevated the schools she worked in.
Lulu was an avid photographer and collector of fine art. She loved eating good food, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. Her compassion and her generous spirit blessed those whose lives she touched.
Lulu was called to her eternal home on Sunday, May 3rd, 2026. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, son-in-law, a host of loving family members, and a close-knit group of friends and neighbors.

We who love and cherish Lulu are confident in the knowledge that to be absent from the body…is to be present with the Lord.
