Larry Gilbert

Larry Gilbert was born August 18th, 1941 to (the late) Totsie Arias and Leon Gilbert, Sr. in Brooklyn, New York.

He spent most of his childhood with his grandparents in Bamberg, South Carolina where he attended Richard Carroll High School.

Larry later moved back to his hometown of Brooklyn where he had numerous jobs. He worked at Associated Food Warehouse (loading and unloading trucks). He was also a garment worker at Figure Flattery.

He enjoyed listening to music by his favorite artists: James Brown, Al Green, Lee Williams and the Spiritual QCs.  He also enjoyed watching Western movies.

On Tuesday, August 31, 2021, Larry Gilbert departed this life.  He leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife of sixty years Annie Ruth Gilbert; one daughter Jacqueline Bellamy; three sons: Donald Gilbert (Martha), Larry Gilbert, Jr. (Cheryl) and Laurence Virgil Glover (Tara); one brother Leon (Ann deceased); seven granddaughters: Nikki (Charles), DaNeisha, Donna-Ann, Deanna, Lauren, Larissa and Chanelle; two grandsons: Reginald (Sasha) and Ramelle; six great-grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter, one aunt Mary Gilbert (of Bamberg, South Carolina); three sisters-in-law: Ella Vaughn (Estee, Sr. deceased), Nellie “Penny” Lilley (James), Michelle Whitaker; three brothers-in-law: Leroy Whitaker, Michael Whitaker and Charles Whitaker; two godsons: Glen McFadden and Gerald McCrae; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
