Lanie Louise Haynes Obituary

A native of Holly Hill South Carolina, Lanie Haynes was born November 10, 1935 and departed this life December 5, 2020.  She was taught at an early age that God and people are the worlds most precious gifts.  In honor of both, she has given many selfless hours assisting the sick, disabled and underprivileged as a service representative with the Social Security Administration.

At an early age she joined the Friendship A.M.E. Church in Santee, South Caroline.  Some years later she moved to Brooklyn, New York.  Not wanting to lose her religious upbringing, she became a member of Bridge Street A.M.E. Church.  There she carried her loving and giving spirit to various church clubs and organizations where she worked tirelessly as a Missionary, providing much needed support to her community.

While in New York, Lanie continued her education at the Drake Business School.  She worked at other jobs until the Social Security Administration employed her where she worked for many years before retiring in December 2002.  Lanie loved helping others and one of her most memorable task was when she was instrumental in locating a son who had seen his mother for more than 5 years.

It was this devotion to her community, that led her and her sisters in Christ to be the first members of the Stuyvesant Branch Key Women, Inc. which was organized by the late Lillian James.

Lanie Haynes can be summed up from the words of her favorite scripture, Matthew 5:16 “Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father which is in Heaven.”

She leaves to cherish her memories, her devoted son Tommy (Sharron) Haynes; beloved Grandson, Avery Thomas Haynes all of Glen Ridge, NJ;  Nieces, Denise Mcalister, N.C. and Bridget Fogle of Germany;  Nephew, Kenneth Saddiq Fogle of NY;  God Daughters, Valerie Braxton Carr, Kecia Mayers Brunson (Greg), NY and Alfreda Session, NY;  God Son, LaShawn Braxton, Pa;  A special acknowledgement to her devoted home attendants, Yuliette Fils, NY Marie Joseph, NY and a host of grand nieces, grand nephews, cousins and friends.
