Lamont "L" Robinson

Lamont “L” Robinson entered this world into the loving arms of his parents, Harold and Veronica Robinson on April 12, 1972 at Brooklyn’s Long Island College Hospital. Harold and Veronica went on to raise Lamont and his brother Sean Robinson in a loving home in Brooklyn, NY.  It was in this home that Lamont developed his love for football and the warm, loving and ever positive spirit for which he was so known and loved.

Lamont was an extremely talented sportsman with a love for baseball and football. It was while playing little league baseball that he was tapped by a coach to play football. Lamont went on to play football while attending PS 306, George Gershwin JHS and Lafayette High School in Brooklyn, New York. While at Lafayette, he was the first black quarterback to lead the team to a Brooklyn Division Championship in 1988. Lamont went on to play Semi Pro football for the Brooklyn Hurricanes where he was the youngest person in the league. He later led the Brooklyn Hurricanes a championship win in 1991 while being named the MVP of the league. 

Lamont carried his passion for football to Fayetteville State in North Caroline where he played while pursuing his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration which he obtained on May 15, 1999 with his proud family in attendance. Lamont was motivated, driven, focused, resilient, and possessed a strong unbreakable mental fortitude. These shining qualities led him to pursue even greater academic achievements as he went on to successfully graduate from Jacksonville State University in Alabama with a Master of Public Administration degree in 2014. 

Having loved sports as a child, Lamont later turned his passion to coaching young children in his Brooklyn, NY community. He worked hard to encourage children to set high goals be confident both on and off the football field. His words to children and their parents were always motivational and inspiring. He was a kind hearted and uplifting mentor to the kids on the football teams he coached. 

Lamont’s high sense of style, superior level of intelligence and incredible sense of commitment, tenacity, determination and perseverance led Lamont to be loved by all, children and adults alike. He was loved by all who met him, and he made everyone feel loved by him in return. For some he embraced them with warm hugs and kisses, and for others it was a strong handshake. You could always count on Lamont’s genuine and benevolent smile when you needed it the most. He always had encouraging words of wisdom for others. He always had a calm, compassionate, and humbling presence about him. He loved his community and was politically and socially active. He always embraced his social consciousness like a badge of honor. 

Lamont’s father Harold Robinson preceded him in passing on October 17th, 2012. Lamont leaves behind to cherish his memory, his mother Veronica Robinson, brother Sean Robinson, Aunt Emily, Aunt Carolyn, Aunt Eleanor, Uncle Eddie, Uncle Jerry, Uncle George, and a multitude of cousins and friends. Lamont will truly be missed by all who knew him.
