A celebration usually begins with an invitation — and if you knew Karen, you probably received more invitations than you could count. So, ladies and gentlemen, you are cordially invited to board Karen’s Celebration Bus as we honor her beautiful life.
The seats are filled with laughter, the music is warm, and every stop along this symbolic journey tells the story of her joy, strength, and love.
Stop One: Childhood – Early Dance Through Life
Our first stop on Karen’s Celebration Bus takes us to Brooklyn, New York, where she was born on December 9, 1980. She was the beloved daughter of Ernesto and Thelma Chandler, and the youngest of two children. Karen’s earliest days were filled with curiosity, laughter, and love.
As a little girl, Karen studied ballet, a reflection of her grace, discipline, and natural rhythm. Those early lessons became part of the joyful, expressive way she moved through life.
She later attended Lafayette High School in Brooklyn, where her personality blossomed even further. She made friends easily, shared laughter freely, and continued to shine in every space she entered.
Even from a young age, Karen had a way of lighting up the room, reminding everyone that life was meant to be celebrated.
Stop Two: Career – Her Professional Rhythm
The Celebration Bus now turns onto the road of Karen’s working life — a chapter defined by dedication, integrity, and compassion.
Karen began her career working at a day care center and later a law firm, where she quickly became known for her dependability, kindness, and the meaningful friendships she formed along the way.
Her path then led her to 18 years of committed service with the NYPD School Safety Division. In this role, Karen’s steps were steady and strong. She worked with professionalism and integrity, earning the admiration of colleagues and the respect of countless students.
This stop shows us that Karen’s work was more than employment — it was a calling. She answered that calling with both strength and celebration.
Stop Three: Motherhood – The Melody of Her Life
Our next stop on Karen’s Celebration Bus brings us to the most cherished stage of her journey: motherhood. Here, the music shifts into the sweetest melody, and the dance floor is filled with love.
Karen leaves behind three beloved daughters — Alexis, Amanda, and Ashley, and her niece, Aniyah -- all of whom she lovingly called her “A’s”. They filled her up with pride, purpose and joy, and were truly the center of her world.
Karen was present in every part of her daughters’ lives, from the everyday routines to the big moments worth celebrating. Her children meant everything to her, and her devotion to them was unwavering.
She was the mom who made every milestone unforgettable — from birthdays to graduations. She planned extravagant celebrations that made her daughters feel seen, cherished, and celebrated. She turned their achievements into events, their moments into memories, and their childhood into a collection of experiences they will cherish forever.
This stop reminds us that Karen’s greatest joy was found in her children. Her love as a mother was steadfast, her guidance constant, and her presence, a light that will continue to shine in their lives.

Karen had a way of bringing everyone together, regardless of the circumstance. Even after long nights out, she still made sure the family showed up for church the next morning in honor of her mother. Moments like these reflected her devotion and the pride she took in keeping her family unified.
