Josephine Hinton Obituary

Josephine Hinton, the daughter of Sim and Clara Hinton, was born on January 2, 1946 in Chattanooga, Tennessee.  Her mother migrated from Tennessee to New York in 1959 with her three daughters.  Josephine attended Eastern District High School and graduated in 1963 with a Commercial Diploma. Upon graduating, she obtained employment with Metropolitan Life Insurance Company and worked there for several years.

Josephine met and married Charles Callier in 1968 and they were together for a few years before separating.  Josephine moved to California and lived there for five years before returning to New York. To further her education and skills, she attended Hunter College where she obtained a Bachelor’s of Business Degree.  She obtained employment with the General Board of Global Ministries in New York City as an office manager until she retired.  After retiring, she worked as a substitute teacher in the New York public school system.

In her life, Josephine enjoyed bowling which she was very skilled at.  She loved to dance, play cards, travel and entertain friends and family in her home.

Above all, Josephine loved the Lord Jesus Christ. She was dedicated in supporting the various ministries of the churches she attended. She attended Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Dr. M. Marquette Peace, Jr, Senior Pastor and thereafter, she attended Evergreen Baptist Church in Bushwick, New York.

She was an active member of the Round Table Senior Citizen Center where she served as Secretary of the Advisory Board. At this center, she met her devoted companion Steve Gonzalez, who encouraged and supported her through the years until her passing.

Josephine Hinton is survived by her two loving sisters, Esther Daniels and Bertha Johnson; her niece Madelynne Day (and her husband Ronald Day); her great nephews James Andrew Johnson, III and Sean Day, great niece Fantasia Johnson; her cousins and family in Chattanooga Tennessee, and relative Reverend Dr. Barbara Cameron and other members of the Merriweather family (New York), and host of friends.

Josephine’s memory will never leave our minds and hearts. We thank God for allowing us to have shared these precious years with her.  We all loved her and will miss her dearly, until we meet again in God’s tomorrow.

With Resurrection Hope!
