Johnnie James Hill was born on August 29, 1945 in Norfolk, Virginia to Elsie Lee Edwards Moses and John James Hill.  Our beloved Johnnie transitioned on Thursday, March 13, 2025 at the age of seventy-nine.

Johnnie, in his preteens, moved with his family to New York City where he met his wife, Betty Paulette Jones Hill.  Johnnie’s children are: (the late) Anthony Hill (Shadron) and their three children; Allen Hill (Adriene) and their two children; Paulette Hill and her one child; and Khamisi Louard (Kimberley) and their three children.  Johnnie has eight siblings: (the late) Larry Hill, (the late) David Hill (Debra), (the late) Timothy Moses (Roaleen), Sherwood Hill (Sharon), Victoria Thigpen (Gene Thigpen deceased), Marion Hill, Marilyn Hill, and Tammie Lucille Hill Strauss. Johnnie has nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and a host of family and friends.

Johnnie devoted his life to serving his community, family, and friends.  He was a retired police officer, a retired Registered Nurse (RN) who served at the Staten Island University Hospital having earned a BSN degree (Bachelor of Science in Nursing), and an entrepreneur in his family’s Carvel Ice Cream store for eleven years. 

Johnnie served as the Patriarch of our family.  He was the Rock in which many found refuge and support. Johnnie was a great provider and leader.  He loved to travel, preferably by car with family.  You could find Johnnie ready to give a smile and a hug with his camera ready to take a picture, whether you were ready or not.

Johnnie loved making memories and connecting with family and friends.  Johnnie touched so many lives and will always be loved and treasured for loving.
