Jeraldine Vaden was born on January 24th, 1957 in Alpine, Alabama to (the late) Lina Louise Swain and Leroy Kimmey.
Jeri, as she was known to family and friends, moved to Queens, New York at the tender age of 12. She attended William Cullen Bryant High School. She became a mother and wife early in life. Jeri and her husband moved their family to Brooklyn, New York in the early eighties where she returned to school with medical courses and retained work as a Medical Assistant at Park East Medical Clinic in Crown Heights.
She retired from that profession to help raise her first-born grandchild. She was very active in all school activities as well as the PTA. She later returned to work as a Library Assistant and Aide at the Brooklyn Public Library which was to be her last place of employment.
Jeri loved life, her family and friends. Although dealing with her own personal crisis, her smile was still beautiful, her laugh still contagious, her heart still welcoming, with an unwavering love for her family.
We will miss her smile, we will miss her laugh, we will miss her gems of wisdom, and let's not forget, we will miss her blessing the kitchen. Yet, we will find solace that her spirit has found peace with her son, (the late) Henry Lamont Swain. May the heavens hold them both.
She is survived by her husband Leon Clinton Vaden; her daughter Linda Faye Swain; her godsister Laurie Taylor-Oggerie; her two grandsons: Jayson Clinton Swain and Austin DeShawn Sanchez; her great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
