Helen Louise Galloway-Williams was born on November 12, 1947 in Sumter, South Carolina. She winged her way to glory Saturday, October 31, 2020.
She is the daughter of (the late) Marguerite Galloway and Wylie Bowens, and a granddaughter of (the late) Mack and Eula Galloway. Helen was raised in Sumter County and received her elementary education at Liberty Street School. She also attended Lincoln High School of Sumter, graduating in the Class of 1966. She was an active member of Allen Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Sumter.
She later relocated from Sumter to New York City where she met and married (the late) Leplorie James Williams. From their union, two children were born: Tahitia Simone Williams and James Williams, II -- both of Brooklyn, New York. Helen was employed by the JPMorgan Chase banking system for forty years until her health declined. She retired as one of the Assistant Vice Presidents of the New York Division.
Though she lived in New York for fifty years, Helen still considered herself a proud Southern girl, and never let go of her roots. She enjoyed tending to her garden and her homegrown tomatoes. She loved to dance, and Prince was her absolute favorite recording artist. Her faith in God was abundant as she was a member of the Calvary A.M.E. Church of Brooklyn for thirty years. Fond and loving memories will be cherished by all who knew her because of the many acts of kindness shown by Helen throughout her life.
Helen was preceded in death by one brother James Holland and one sister Carol Rodrigues of New York. She leaves to mourn her passing, two children: Tahitia Simone Williams and James Williams, II (and his wife Crystal); one brother Rev. Dr. Robert E. Galloway (of Sumter, South Carolina); two sisters: Ruth G. Charles (of Sumter, South Carolina) and Patricia Garcia (of New York City); one grandchild DeShon Stevens; one sister-in-law Tanya Moore, and her husband Jerry (of Fredericksburg, Virginia); and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
