Harvey C. Jackson , Sr.

Harvey C. Jackson Sr. was born on May 22, 1943, in the close-knit town of North, South Carolina, the hometown of legendary entertainer Eartha Kitt. Raised in a community where neighbors were like family, Harvey grew up during a time when life was simple, faith was strong, and lifelong friendships were formed. He attended Dover High School, the local school where generations of children in the community learned, played, and grew up together.

As a young teenager, Harvey left South Carolina and relocated to New York, where he began building the life that would define his legacy. Never one to shy away from hard work, Harvey dedicated himself to providing for his family. Throughout his career, he was employed by Ford Motor Company, worked on the railroad, and later worked with PAR Plumbing. He earned the respect of coworkers and friends through his dependability, determination, and strong work ethic.

On August 4, 2026, Harvey peacefully departed this life, leaving behind a lifetime of cherished memories and a legacy of love, strength, and perseverance.

Harvey was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend whose greatest joy came from his family. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elaine Spellman-Jackson; his parents, Luedell Jackson-Messado and Mannie Casteal Sr.; his son, Harvey C. Jackson Jr.; and his stepdaughter, Sherese Spellman.

Harvey leaves to cherish his memory his beloved children: Kim Jackson of Baltimore, Maryland; stepdaughters Barbara Smith (Anthony Smith) of Miramar, Florida; and Latanya Foreman (Charles Foreman) of New York City, New York.

Harvey’s legacy continues through his cherished granddaughter, Varshay Jackson, and his step-grandchildren, Sherese Pollard, Michael Pollard, Aliyah Smith, and Shakeya Smith.

He was also blessed with great-grandchildren who brought him tremendous pride and joy: Zion Cephas, Zoey Cephas, and Aylinn McDougald, all of Baltimore, Maryland; and step-great-grandchild J’lani Pollard of Buffalo, New York.

He is lovingly remembered by his siblings: Syblean Johnson of North, South Carolina; Roger Casteal Sr. (Lavern) of Pelion, South Carolina; Clarence Casteal (Patricia) of North, South Carolina; Billy Casteal (Linda) of Swansea, South Carolina; Alice Schofield (Bobby) of West Columbia, South Carolina; and Eddie Clay Brown (Marva) of Evans, Georgia.

In addition to his immediate family, Harvey leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and cherished friends, all of whom will forever treasure the memories they shared with him.

Harvey never forgot his Southern roots. Although he built his life in New York, the memories of growing up in North, South Carolina, remained close to his heart. Those who knew him will remember his quiet strength, resilience, hardworking nature, and deep love for his family. His life was a testament to perseverance, sacrifice, and the importance of family.

Though Harvey has departed this earthly life, his love, wisdom, and the memories he created will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. His legacy will be carried forward by the generations that follow, forever honoring the life of a man whose greatest accomplishments were found not only in his work but in the family he loved so dearly.
