Gregory Ferguson was born in Brooklyn, New York on March 21, 1961, to Vivian and (the late) Benjamin Ferguson. He departed his life on Friday, October 22, 2021.
Greg was educated in the New York City public school system, and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1979. While in high school, his love of basketball landed him on the Varsity Team where he excelled on the court as well as in his academics. He briefly attended college in Arizona, but returned to New York where he continued his studies at the Borough of Manhattan Community College where he also played on their basketball team.
Greg acquired a job with the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation -- a job that allowed him to comfortably retire to New Orleans, Louisiana with his wife and daughter after twenty-seven years holding a supervisory position. Even after retirement, Greg kept a hard-working mentality, picking up a part-time job at the New Orleans Commissary to "keep busy".
Greg was an excellent basketball player. Affectionately known as "Ferg" to his closest friends and teammates, for many years, he played in several basketball tournaments throughout NYC, and his talents were recognized by many. He definitely was a "Brooklyn Baller". He was a die-hard Knicks Fan and loved his Dallas Cowboys.
In 1991, Greg met the love of his life Carolyn, and they married on December 17, 1994. From their union, they had one daughter, Skylar, who was his pride and joy.
Greg had a genuine warm and friendly personality with a big heart. He never hesitated to lend a helping hand, and was loved by many. He will be missed immensely.
He leaves to mourn and cherish his memory, his mother Vivian; his loving and devoted wife Carolyn; his daughter Skylar; three brothers: Derrick, Edwin, and Anthony; one sister Margaret Lynn; two goddaughters: Lyaja and Nyla; seven sisters-in-law, eight brothers-in-law, twelve nephews, eleven nieces, and a host of great-nieces and -nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.
