Glyne Jackson Obituary

Glyne Mitchinson Cortez Jackson, affectionately known as “Jimmy” by his friends, was born on January 20th 1941 in the parish of St. John, Barbados to the late Charles and Meta Jackson. He was raised in a loving home and had a very close relationship with his siblings (3 brothers and 1 sister). Glyne also shared a very special bond with his paternal grandmother and he spent quite a bit of time with her in St. Phillip. Glyne attended primary school in St. Phillip and later went on to attend the Hilda Skeeene school. Upon completion of his education, Glyne taught Math at a primary school in St. Michael.

In 1961 Glyne migrated to the United States to attend school for Engineering. Upon his arrival in the US, Glyne lived for a short period of time in Queens, but later moved to Brooklyn New York, where he remained a resident for over 55 years until his passing. Glyne loved the Bedford-Stuyvesant area of Brooklyn-where Fulton Street was his stomping grounds for many, many years.

Over his years in New York, Glyne worked various jobs. He was also a member of the Masons Fraternal Organization and was an active member of a Brooklyn chapter of the organization for many years.  Glyne loved watching the games of cricket and baseball, as well as playing BINGO and his all-time favorite Dominos. He enjoyed completing Cross Word puzzles, but he was a master of Sudoku puzzles. This was not surprising considering he was a wiz in math. Glyne had a gift of gab and could hold an extensive conversation with anyone on almost any topic.  He had an easy- going personality and he loved to laugh.

Glyne departed this life on June 24th, 2021 at Brooklyn Hospital Center after a short illness. He was proceeded in death by his parents Charles and Meta Jackson, sister Joaneta and brothers Eggelston and Chelston.

Glyne leaves to cherish his memory: his daughter Lisa Chapman; Son-in Law Darron Chapman; brother Grantley Jackson; Sister-in-law Heather Jackson and a host of Nieces, Nephews and Cousins here in the United States, Barbados and Canada.
