Geneva Douglas, the youngest of four children, was born on November 24, 1935 in Rockhill, South Carolina to (the late) Mary Hall and Elbert Hefney. She was later adopted by her cousin Viola Bailey.
Geneva wedded her late husband Robert Douglas in 1958. They moved to Brooklyn, New York together. Through their union, five children were born: Donald Douglas, Wayne Douglas, Barry Douglas, Jeffery Douglas and Sherry Douglas.
Geneva was a devoted mother to her children, and a loving wife, grandmother, great-grandmother and neighborhood treasure. She was full of love, energy and life. Her vibrant personality, strong will, and deep connection to her family and community was unmatched. She not only loved her children, but all the children in the neighborhood, as she was a caregiver throughout her lifetime. Her heart, arms and home were always open, and will be deeply missed.
On Sunday, March 15, 2026, Geneva Douglas departed this life in Brooklyn, New York. She leaves to cherish her memory, her children: Wayne, Barry and Sherry; her grandchildren: Rodale Douglas, Jermaine Douglas, Niasia Smith, Shakira Douglas, Tamika Douglas and Robert Anderson, Jr.; her great- grandchildren: Jayden Douglas, Zaire Smith, Zayden Smith, Zola Smith, Darius Douglas, Josiah Douglas and Nala Anderson; her in-laws: Catherine Evans, Robert Anderson, Sr., Lasoen Douglas and Keveion Smith; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, extended family, and friends.
She was predeceased by her husband, two of her sons: Donald, Jeffery; and a grandson Devonte Douglas.
Affectionately known as “Ms. Dee” or “Ms. Gennie”, Geneva will deeply be missed and fondly remembered for her strength, independence, and the love she shared so freely with those around her.
