Evangelist Lula Mae Benjamin was born on January 25, 1944 in Savannah, Georgia to the late Solomon Benjamin and Susie Mae Anderson. Lula Mae was the fifth of eight siblings. Mildred Benjamin, Penny Benjamin, Charles Anderson, Peggy Scott, Mildred Anderson Harper and Lonnie Mae Kennell, all preceded her in death.
While living in Savannah, Georgia, Lula Mae Benjamin met and married John W. Holliday, Jr. in 1961. To this union were born three children; their firstborn, John W. Holliday, III, was born in Georgia. Craig A. and Tonia D. Holliday, were born after the family relocated to Brooklyn, New York.
In 1963, Lula Mae joined Mason Temple, Brooklyn, New York, under the leadership of the late Elder Damon Wiggins. There she became a licensed Evangelist; and met Delores Barclift, who became a life-long friend and Godmother to one of Lula’s children.
Evangelist Holliday graduated from O. M. Kelly Bible Institute and attended Bethel Gospel Tabernacle Bible School. She authored two books “1231 Love St.” and “The Blame Game”.
In 1973, Evangelist Lula Mae Holliday joined Mt. Sinai Cathedral Church of God in Christ, under the leadership of the Late Bishop Clarence L. Sexton, Sr. Under his leadership, she served as a Sunday School Teacher and later, Sunday School Superintendent, a member of Missionary Board and many other Auxiliaries. Upon the transitioning of Bishop C. L. Sexton, Sr., Evangelist Lula Mae continued her membership at Mt. Sinai, under the current leadership of Bishop Clarence L. Sexton, Jr. She served as Team Leader of the Missionary Board, as an Administrative Aide to the Bishop, on the Mother’s Board, Bishop’s Altar Team, Mountain Midweek Service Team, Sunday School Teacher, Mistress of Ceremony, and member of the Senior Choir.
Evangelist Holliday found gainful employment at the Bernard M. Fineson Developmental Center, Queens, New York, as a supervisor. She retired in 2006, after twenty years of employment. She began travelling the world with her life-long friend, Delores Barclift; from Australia and Israel, to South Africa; just to name a few. She also enjoyed family vacations.
On February 17, 2021 the Lord called Evangelist Lula Mae Holliday home.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her three children: John W. Holliday, III (Wife Hazel), Craig A. Holliday (Wife Vanessa), and Tonia D. Holliday; her youngest sister: Laverne Pope seven grandchildren: Eloise Cummings (Husband Karel), John W. Holliday, IV, Matthew Holliday, Mya Holliday, Serlene Holliday, Michael W. Skyers, Jr. and Michelle N. Skyers; two great- grandchildren: Lenox Cummings and Zephaniah Holliday; her best friend, Delores Barclift; Godchildren: Melody McCullen, Rotanetta Highsmith and Elder Donald Copeland; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, in-laws, friends and her church family.
