Elva Ermine Layne

Elva Ermin Chase Layne was called home on Thursday, February 28th, 2019. She was born in Port-of-Spain Trinidad, West Indies on October 31st, 1932 to (the late) Fitzroy and Agnes Chase.

Elva spent her childhood and young adulthood in Port-of-Spain where she attended Tranquility Girls School and Osmond High School. After completing high school she became a talented seamstress.

Elva was dedicated to her family. While raising and nurturing her young children, she was also a surrogate mother to her younger brothers Clyde, Ancil and sister Anselma.

After immigrating to the United States in 1967, she first found employment with the Irving Trust Co. as a teller and was later promoted to a managerial position. After retiring from banking Elva began working for the New York City Board of Education as a Para Professional until she retired in 2008.

Elva is survived by her husband Urban Layne; seven children: Pinky, Lennard, Marilyn, Ernest, Norvan, Victor and Sharon; her brothers and sisters: Norva, Hollis, Clyde, Ancil, Anselma, Daphne, Anna, Angela, Lynn and Joy; six granddaughters, seven grandsons and five great-grandchildren; beloved sister and brother-in-law: Cleopatra and Clive Smith and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family and friends.
