Edward Bernard Jones Obituary

Edward Bernard Jones was born in Brooklyn, New York on August 19, 1957. He was the youngest of two children born to (the late) Bernard Elmo Jones and Louise Dorothy Wilkes Jones.

Edward was affectionately known as “Brother Dear”, “Eddie”, or “Big Ed”.  He was educated in the New York City school system and attended Kingsborough Community College where he majored in Business Administration.  During the 1970s and 1980s, Edward worked at Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Greater New York in Manhattan, and later became a deliverer of medical equipment to various nursing homes.

Edward was introduced to Christ at an early age by his late grandmother, Beatrice Chase; this gave him a solid foundation for Christian living. He became a member of Concord Baptist Church of Christ in Brooklyn on February 11, 1990.  He joined the Men’s Chorus partly due to his love of all types of music.

During his early years, Edward could be found on the basketball court, “shooting hoops” with friends in the neighborhood.  His “green thumb” was evidenced by the many plants he cared for and grew, and his artistic talent was displayed in the drawings he created.  Edward was always willing to help senior citizens in any way he could, and he did it with that broad, infectious, charismatic smile that he had.

Edward cherished his family, calling his sister, Twinette, his “Sunshine, and the best sister on the planet”. He cherished his daughter, Charice, and his grandson, Isaiah. They were two bright lights in his life. He loved riding his bicycle around the neighborhood and taking his dog, Thor, for early morning walks. Thor was a great companion and friend who showed unconditional love.

On Saturday, April 24, 2021, after a short hospital stay, Edward peacefully transitioned from Wyckoff Hospital in Brooklyn to his Heavenly home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  Edward leaves to cherish his memories his sister: Twinette Jones-Combest; his brother-in-law: George Combest; his daughter who was his pride and joy: Charice Jones; his grandson: Isaiah Hughley; his adopted sister: Paulette Woodley; his aunt: Edna Louise Griffin; a long-time friend: Linda Nichols; his Concord Baptist Church of Christ family and a host of cousins, friends, and neighbors.
