It is with great sadness that the family of Eleonora Rozina announces her passing on Wednesday, March 18, 2020, at the age of 94 years.
Eleonora will be forever remembered by her children, Sasha, Lena and Marína, as well as their spouses. Eleonora will also be missed by her brother Garik, sister-in-law Liza, 7 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren. Eleonora was predeceased by her husband of 43 years, Elkhon
Rozin.
A native of Baku, Azerbaijan, Eleonora enrolled in the Baku School of Medicine but then transferred to the 1st Moscow School of Medicine. Having graduated Summa cum laude in 1947, she practiced medicine as a neurologist while completing post graduate studies in medicine. Eleonora subsequently attained the highest degree in medical science, an exceptional achievement at the time for both men and women.
Drawn to science, which became her lifetime passion, she became an internationally renowned virologist who dedicated all of her professional life to research and working out methodology of creating vaccines fighting such diseases as polio, measles, influenza. She led international teams of scientists and received multiple citations and awards.
Having retired in 1991, she moved from Moscow, Russia, to Bratislava, Slovakia, but spent a great deal of time, especially the last 3 years of her life in the USA.
