Doris A. Williams

May 25, 1925 ~ October 23, 2021 (age 96)

Obituary

Doris Ann Williams was born on May 25, 1925 in the city of Wilson, North Carolina.  One of seven children borne from the union of Wiley Rountree (deceased) and Mary Barnes (deceased). Doris was called into existence to bless this earth with humor, compassion, and a wealth of joy. .Many were drawn to her engaging and charismatic personality that oftentimes kept family, friends and even strangers pleasantly amused.

Upon graduating from the esteemed Charles H. Darden High School in North Carolina, Doris wed her then young love, James Williams.  From that union, they were blessed with one daughter, Peggy A. Williams (deceased).  In Doris’ eyes, heaven couldn’t have created a more perfect framed specimen.  She was truly the delight of her heart.  A mere mention of her name and Doris’ eyes would glisten and a smile would adorn her face.  She too, loved her mother immensely.

Good mothers are a blessing and grandmothers are truly extra-special.  Doris fell within the realm of extra-special.  If necessary, Doris might possibly climb the highest mountain or swim the deepest sea for the good benefit and wellbeing of her two grandchildren, Willis G. Cheatham, Jr. and Jemal A. Cheatham, Sr.  If love could be called any two names, it would be these two.  Doris loved her grandsons immensely and never made it a secret to all those who wanted to know.

Early Saturday morning on October 23, 2021, Doris answered her call to rest from this life in Brooklyn, New York.  Doris is preceded in death by her only child; Peggy.  Survived by her two grandsons to cherish her loving memory and amazing life:  Willis G. Cheatham, Jr., (his wife Andrea) (West Hempstead, New York) and Jemal Aaron Cheatham, Sr. (Washington, D.C.); three great grandchildren: Tishonna Ferguson (Bayonne, New Jersey), Willis G. Cheatham III (Freeport, New York) and Jemal A. Cheatham, Jr. (Silver Spring, Maryland); two great-great grandchildren: Austyn Jade Sherrod (Burlington, New Jersey) and Nico Willis Cheatham (Freeport, New York) and a host of other family members including nieces and nephews across many generations and beloved friends from across the nation, special friends and dear neighbors.
