Ms. Dior Nylah Berkeley was born Tuesday, May 29th, 2001 at Long Island College Hospital in Brooklyn, New York to Anitre Nicole Harrell and Jaime Shalek Berkeley. Dior attended The Brooklyn New School from September 2007 to June 2013. She then attended Arts & Letters Middle School from September 2013 to June 2015. Dior graduated from The Brooklyn School of the Arts High School as a member of the Honor Roll in June 2019, and was currently a sophomore at The College of Staten Island majoring in Psychology. Dior had a 4.0 GPA for her last marking period which made her very proud.
Dior loved eating pasta, seafood, and chicken sandwiches from Popeye’s, music, dancing, dressing up, long eyelashes and different hair styles. She enjoyed amusement parks, especially roller-coasters; the higher and faster … the better.
Dior was beautiful, caring, competitive, faithful, fearless, honest, intelligent, loving, outgoing, outspoken, selfless, and trustworthy. (We could go on and on.)
Dior was a loving daughter. There was nothing she would not do for her parents. Dior was a protective sister who defended, laughed, and shared with her siblings. Dior was a loyal friend who gave advice, made certain everybody was ok (like a mom), and was always trying to find ways to bring people together. Dior was a firecracker; a free spirit who lived life to the fullest; she did things her way.
“Yes, there were times, I’m sure you knew, when I bit off more than I could chew
But through it all, when there was doubt, I ate it up and spit it out
I faced it all, and I stood tall, and did it my way!”
Dior was a leader amongst her peers, and the light of her family who will be dearly missed. Dior is smiling down on us with Kimani Foster.
