Cynthia Oneta Scott was born on January 18, 1933 to (the late) Lillian Gertrude Gibbs Lovell and Richard Benjamin Lovell in the Parish of St. Michael, Barbados. There, her education began at the Hynesbury Girls School.
In 1954, Cynthia and her six siblings moved to Queens, New York, and she continued her education at Girls’ High School in Brooklyn.
She later met and married Alfred Lewis (deceased), and from their union came two daughters -- Alveta Lewis and Patricia Belk.
In 1975, she began a career with the New York City Board of Education as a School Lunch Manager at P.S. 297 in Brooklyn where she was responsible for feeding over 500 school children daily. She retired in 1996.
As a faithful member of Calvary and St. Cyprian's Anglican Episcopal Church since 1960, she became a member of the choir in the alto section.
In 2004, Cynthia relocated to Richmond, Virginia where she became a member of St. Martin's Episcopal Church.
She loved to cook, some of her favorite meals being: Coo-Coo, Spaghetti, Fish Cakes and Fried Chicken. She loved hosting family and friends at our annual Halsey Street Block Parties.
On Saturday, January 29, 2022, Cynthia departed this life in Richmond, Virginia. She was predeceased by her brothers: Rudolph, Richard, Charles, and Lawrence; and her sister Lucia.
She leaves to mourn and cherish her memory, her two daughters: Alveta Lewis and Patricia Belk; one brother Victor Lovell; one sister Sybil Stewart; sons-in-law: Earl Belk, Jr. (Jamel) and Selwyn Edwards; five grandchildren: Amber Ferguson, Earl Belk, III, Lamar Belk, Ian Lewis-Belizaire and Delbert Lovell; one grandson-in-law Eric Ferguson; two granddaughters-in-law: Bliss Belk and Stacey Holt; six great-grandchildren: Destiny Castro, Gyzelle Belk, Merari Young, Sanai Belk, Ahlonni Belk and Jaden Belizaire; former husband Delisle Scott and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
