Corinne A. McCormick Obituary

Corinne Adele McCormick, born on September 11, 1931, entered God’s Kingdom on Saturday, February 11, 2023, to be reunited with her loving parents, Edward Saunders McCormick and Corinne Amelia Harrison-McCormick, and her loving sister Alice Clapp.

Corinne was the last of three generations of her family in the Concord Baptist Church of Christ, Brooklyn, New York beginning with her grandmother, Deaconess Frances Wynn-Harrison.  Corinne was a Youth Choir member for many years under the direction of Samuel Hill and was a faithful member of Concord for over eighty years.

In 1949, Corinne graduated from Girls High School in Brooklyn.  After graduation, she began her career at the NYC Board of Transportation (now called NYCTA) in 1951.  Corinne worked her way up to Administrative Manager, and was responsible for handling Freedom of Information Law requests until retiring in 1991 after forty years of service.

Corinne, called “Sister” by her family and close friends, remained active after retirement by volunteering with her sister, Alice, and friend Mary Felder, for twelve years at the Clothing Exchange in her church.  Corinne worked every Tuesday to make sure the clothing was clean and ready for Wednesday’s opening to the public.

Corinne often expressed gratitude for the love, devotion, and support of these special people -- her friend of eighty years, Jewel Jackson; her Sunday dinner partner, Gloria Rudiel; frequent callers: Alyce Martin, and Alyce’s sister, Gladys Polter. Also, Deacon L. Broome, Deacon Yvonne Campbell, Evelyn Pridgen, Sonya McCall, Pastor Henry and his wife, Evangelist Marcella Herring, Lisa Bing, and Deacon Joseph Dallas, Jr.  Her family also gives thanks to her neighbors: Mario and Iris Suazio, and Marcie and Rafael Linares who cared for and supported her during her time of need. Her family would like to give a special “thank you” to Roberto Cooper who was extraordinarily devoted to Sister’s well-being and comfort for many years and stood by her until her passing.

Sister leaves to mourn and cherish her memory: her cousins: Lee’Anne ElHadi and Cheryl Woodson (who supported her and tended to her needs throughout her illness); and cousins: Jeanette Raynor, David Woodson (Wondetta), Dr. Jonathan Woodson (Sherril), Yvonne Harrison-Daniely (Kenneth) and Gina Harrison; her godson Dwight “Chipper” Holloway (Michelle); her goddaughter Shandora Pridgare; her dear friends: Roxie, Yvonne, and Evelyn, and many others who loved and supported her over the years.
