Christopher L. Van Putten Obituary

Christopher Lloyd Van Putten, son and second child of the late James Henry Van Putten and Matilda Young Van Putten, was born on August 27, 1957 in Queens, New York. He grew up in Jamaica, Queens and lived there throughout most of his adult life.  Chris met the love of his life, Wanda King, in college.  They married on July 26, 1986.  From their union, they had two children: Christopher Lloyd and Jainé Lynn.

Christopher was an Information Systems (IT) guy.  He had a natural aptitude for electronics.  He graduated from Queensborough Community College with an Associate’s degree in Computer Engineering Technology. Chris’s career in IT started at Ericsson International where he was an electrical technician for 20 years.  During his career, he worked in many aspects of IT, but specialized in telecommunications, communications satellites, video technology and banking systems.  Over the last 7 years, Chris worked at the MTA in New York City.

Chris was a person who appreciated the simple things in life … family, friends, co-workers and neighbors. He especially appreciated the family reunions coordinated by his cousin Debbie. Chris was a kind and generous man, the type who would give you the shirt off his back.

Chris was a fun-loving, happy-go-lucky guy who was usually the life of the party. He had many hobbies: photography, playing drums, music, bowling and cycling, but cooking was his absolute favorite.  His most memorable moments were when the family gathered at the house for one occasion or another, and Chris joyfully conjured up one of his “gourmet” meals.  He knew his culinary skills were good, and he reveled in the glow of all the admiration.

Chris was still close to many of his childhood friends from “down the block” on 156th Street.  He was the drummer in a band with his friends: Glenn Harrison, Dwayne Johnson, Melvin Palmer, Michael Williams and Greg Edwards.  His buddies: Mychael Powell, Sterling Palmer, Curtis Whitehead, and Wayne Jeffrey kept him in good spirits during the difficult times.
