Christine A. Roberts Obituary

Christine Ann Roberts lived a difficult life with courage, compassion, faith, and the biggest of hearts. She was born to Carl Edward Roberts and Dorothy Denise DeGazon Roberts in Brooklyn, New York on November 20, 1975.  Not long after her birth, it was determined she had sickle cell disease.  By the time she was three years old, her parents were told she had only a few months to live.  She proved them wrong and lived another forty-five years.

Although Christine’s life was full of chronic pain, it was also full of heartfelt love, boundless humor, a nearly photographic memory, and a deep desire to care for and protect the people she loved most.

Christine attended Catholic school throughout her life -- first, at St. Gregory the Great, then at Nazareth High School. Because of her ongoing illness, she was home-schooled for many years. Despite that, she graduated high school with the prestigious Regents Diploma.

She worked for a short time, assisting her father in his tax and financial services business at the family home on Carroll Street, and lived on her own with the assistance of a health aide for a few years on Albany Avenue in Brooklyn. In her younger years, she traveled with the family to the old summer home in Parkesburg, Pennsylvania – a place of seemingly endless cherished memories – as well as Florida, Canada, Hawaii, Mexico, the Bahamas, and St. Lucia, W.I.  In her later years, she was unable to travel but enjoyed the opportunity to have seen many places.

Because she lived in the family home nearly all of her life, she was the family historian and knew all the details of her family ancestry from many conversations with parents, aunts, and uncles over the years. Christine loved to call family members on the phone and chat for hours. She was not one for short conversations – there was always a little more that needed to be said. These phone calls were her lifeline and her world.

Affectionately known as Chrissy, she was passionate about arts & crafts and created many projects including beautifully decorated treasure boxes, picture frames, and hand-drawn artwork. She loved to watch science fiction movies and was fascinated by stories of aliens and other worlds.  She adored pets and enjoyed the company of many over the span of her lifetime including her well-loved cats, Misty and Grace. She was a true foodie, and loved Caribbean, Latin, and Italian cuisine. One of her favorite beverages was Jamaican ginger beer. She had a sweet tooth as well. Some of her favorite desserts were cheesecake, key lime pie, and chocolate cake.

She was an aunt three times over -- first, to her nephew Carl Edward Roberts-King (son of her late sister Catherine Stephanie Roberts-King); then, to her niece Kayla Trinity George (daughter of her sister, Patricia Angel Roberts); and finally, to her niece, Brooke Reneé Williams (daughter of her sister Denise Anne Roberts). She was godmother to the son of her late friend, Davina Daniels, who lost her life to sickle cell disease in 2019.

Christine Ann Roberts is survived by her sisters: Denise and Patricia; her nephew Carl; and her nieces: Kayla and Brooke. She will be missed by her “adopted” sister Sheryl Ramsey; long-time family friend Denise Marriott Pierce; and her best friend Ayanna Blaize.
