Christine Ynosencio Obituary

Christine Ynosencio, better known as “Tina,” was born on October 12, 1944, to Mary Catherine Johnson and the late Ramon Ynosencio in Brooklyn, New York. She passed away, peacefully, on May 1, 2026, after a long illness.

Early in life, Tina developed a great love of music while her Aunt Mary taught her to play the piano.  That love of music would never fade. Tina started creating her own mix tapes and became famous for giving them out as gifts. You would know that those tapes were mixed by “STAR FIRE” because she would put her stamp on them! Tina also enjoyed dancing and maintained a vast vinyl record collection.

Tina attended school in Brooklyn, and her favorite subject was History. After attending Clara Barton High School for nursing, she went on to work at Maimonides Hospital, helping patients to regain their strength through therapy. She retired from the hospital after 28 years of dedicated service.

Tina took her younger siblings under her wing. She enjoyed being in charge and taking them places with her. She would cheer them on as they participated in school activities, such as cheerleading. She was even in a bicycle club with her sister, Gwen. Tina fell into the role of Mom when God blessed her with her only child, a son whom she named Dwayne. Although she was strict, warm memories of her walking him to school and picking him up, each day, remain. Tina married the late Theodore Fleary and, as a family, they went on to enjoy many vacations together. At times, even her youngest sister Zaida came along. Tina was always ready for a road trip with the family, and her brother John can attest to those being quite memorable.

After retirement, Tina’s love for justice moved her to become active in the community whenever she saw her neighbors being treated unfairly. She remained in shape by going to the gym, walking, using natural products and eating whole foods. However, she still had room for strawberry shortcake. Tina treasured spending time with her mom and sisters as they took turns celebrating each other’s birthdays.  She was ecstatic when her mom turned 100! In her spare time, Tina would be fascinated with reading and was always up for a good scare. During the last 10 years of her life, she was not in the best of health. Still, Tina fought her ailing body with a quiet strength while often finding a way to laugh about it. Whenever someone asked Tina how she was feeling, she would say, “I’m doing great!”

Christine was predeceased by her stepfather, Elwood J. Johnson. She is survived by her son, Dwayne (daughter-in-law Wendy), mother Catherine, 2 sisters: Gwendolyn and Zaida, brother John, (sister-in-law Joanne), grandson Marlon, granddaughter Danisha, 5 great-granddaughters: Marleigh, Trejure, Egypt, Royal, and Makenzie; nephews, nieces, and a host of other relatives and friends.
