Catherine Tucker (“Aunt Cat”) was born on October 7, 1941 to (the late) Dolphus Williams and Irene Rivers Williams in Brooklyn, New York. She was the eldest of three, with one sister and one brother. She received her diploma from William H. Maxwell High School. After graduating, she worked various jobs until she became a Telephone Operator at Bell Telephone Company. She worked there from 1969 to 1972. While working at Bell Telephone, she was encouraged to take a test for a New York City job, which she did, and passed.
Catherine began working for the Department of Social Services’ Human Resources Administration in 1972. While working for the City of New York, she attended the Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) so that she could become even better at her job. She excelled and began working as a System Tester for Operations -- a position she held until retiring in 1995 due to health problems.
After she retired, Catherine enjoyed traveling, listening to music, and a good game of Bid Whist. She was a kind-hearted, fun, loving, outspoken, loud-speaking, generous person.
Catherine, never far from God, joined St. Paul Community Baptist Church in 1999 which at the time was under the leadership of Reverend Johnny Ray Youngblood. She became a proud Peridot at the age of seventy. She was a frequent church-goer until her health started to fail.
Catherine began her journey up the rough side of the mountain, holding on to God’s powerful hand on May 12th. She made it home on Friday, the 28th of May, 2021. Rest in peace Cat, and get that Bid Whist game started.
Catherine is preceded in death by her husband Ira Tucker, her sister Lorraine Simmons, and brother Kenneth Williams. She leaves to cherish her memories, her nephew Kevin Williams; her great-niece Starlene Williams; her cousins: Evelyn and Izetta Goodwin; and two of her many nieces: Paulette Bernard and Felicia Taylor -- both of whom were there for her, day and night. She also leaves a host of other nieces, nephews, and last but not least, Ms. Ruby Russell … her friend, her sister.
