Obituary

Eugene Calvin Burrus was born on November 18, 1931 in New Bern, NC to the late John Leonard Burrus and the late Thelma Viola Havens Burrus.

He received some of his early education in the New Bern school system until the age of 13, and there after the family relocated to Brooklyn, NY. There he continued his education until he graduated from Fashion Industries, formally known as Central Needle Trade.

When he was a teenager, he met the love of his life, the late Ethel Delores Russ Burrus, whom he married on Valentine's Day in 1952. To this union, God blessed them with 6 children. Calvin Junior (now deceased), Carolyn (now deceased), Ronald, Michele (now deceased), Andrea and Charisse.

Calvin was a man of many talents including singing, cooking, and baking. He was best known for his talent as a seamster.

Calvin, as everyone knew him was a very sweet and humble man, a family oriented man, a quiet man, a man of few words, but when he spoke, you listened.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his long time companion Elsa Tynes, son Ronald/Janet, daughters Andrea (Husband Jorge) and Charisse, brother David, brother in aw Michael Russ, sisters in law Barbara Thomas and Yvonne Burrus (wife of the late John Burrus), 2 step sons Raphael (wife Heather and their sons) and Nico, Iva Frasier Burrus, 9 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-children, a host of nieces and nephews and friends.

   2 Timothy 4:6-8

As for me, my life has already been poured out as an offering to God. The time of my death is near. I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful.

And now the prize awaits me - the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on the day of his return. And the prize is not just for me, but for all who eagerly look forward to his appearing.

God looked around his garden. He saw an empty space. He then looked down from heaven and saw your tired face. He put his arms around you, and he whispered come to rest. His garden must be beautiful, he only takes the best. You meant so much to all of us, there is nothing we can say, the grief is still within our hearts and we think of you each day. We did not have a last farewell nor the thought of saying goodbye, for you were gone before we knew and only God knows why. We look back with tenderness along the path we trod, we bless the years we had with you, and leave the rest to God. Tired and weary he made no fuss, but tried so hard to stay with us. To a wonderful life came a happy end, he died as he lived, peacefully and everyone's friend.

May He Rest in Paradise.

Done in Profound Sorrow.
