Bessie Jones Obituary

Bessie Jones was born in Scotia, South Carolina, to (the late) Carrie Bostick and Joseph Monroe on February 26, 1929.  She was an identical twin to her sister Blanche Campbell (deceased). After completing her education in the South, Bessie sang on the choir at Hopewell C.M.E there in Scotia.

Mama Jones was kind, nice, funny, and very outspoken. Whatever came to her mind came out of her mouth, and she stood firm on her words.  Whenever someone was in trouble, she would always say, "Don’t worry baby, God will make a way.”

She loved her kids dearly … even the ones that were not hers.  Her love was so strong for everyone that that no matter who she talked to, she always ended the conversation with “I love you baby”.

On Wednesday, October 14, 2020, Bessie departed this life and joined her twin sister Blanche Campbell, her mother Carrie Bostick, her brother Johnny Bostick and her half-brother Richardson Monroe.  She leaves to mourn and cherish her memory, her children: Wilbert Lawton, Carolyn Slowe, Larry Jones, Melvin Jones (and his wife Kim Kenrah Jones), Ricky Jones, Michael Jones, Teddy Jones, Lisa Jones and Anthony Jones (and his wifeVictoria), Vincent Jones and Deidra Jones; twenty-five grandchildren, twenty-six great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, six half siblings: Lillian Montgomery (Washington, DC), Joseph Monroe (North Carolina), Lacey Monroe (Washington, DC), Ethel Monroe (Fort Washington, Maryland), Earnest Monroe (Salem, Nevada) and Katie Monroe (Washington, DC); and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
