Arthur Watkins Obituary

Arthur Watkins (Artie) was born April 14, 1947 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Benjamin and Frances Watkins; where he continued to enjoy and flourish throughout his life.  He was the seventh of eight siblings. Family and friends affectionately knew him as Artie, Pee-Wee, and Pop-Pop.

He was educated in the New York Public School system and in 1965 graduated from Bushwick High School. He continued his education at Manhattan Community College where he found enjoyment in photography.

He started his professional career in the financial field at the age of 18. He explored a career in retail but found a passion in protecting others in the Security Industry as a Special Police Officer. While working at Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center Artie met and fell in love with Sandra Macklin and soon after they were married on May 5, 1989. They are faithful members of Christian Cultural Center Church family in Brooklyn, New York.  He later retired from Nomura Exchange in 2012. His professional career spanned over 45 years.

Artie’s favorite hobbies included photography, traveling, listening to music, and dancing. Out of all his hobbies, he especially enjoyed boat and deep-water fishing but would not turn down a trip to the pier. His fish of choice were porgy.

He was devoted to his family and encouraged others to succeed. He was caring and fun loving. His magnetic personality resulted in him making friends everywhere he went. He was an amazing storyteller that captured everyone’s attention. He was the life of the party by spreading his affectious laughter, jokes, and endless joy.

Artie departed this life on Wednesday, April 8, 2021 at Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center. Loving brothers and sisters (Benjamin, Delores, Paul, Barbara, and Robert) preceded him in death.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and dedicated wife, Sandra Macklin Watkins, surviving siblings, Frances and twin sister Audrey, and five children: Sherelle Watkins, Kaaliq Ali, Trina Macklin, Nekia Macklin, Kevin Macklin, daughters in-law, Bridget Ali and India Macklin and mother In-law, Pearl Davis. He also leaves four sisters In-law, three brothers In-laws, numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and a host of family, friends and neighbors.
