Alphonso A. Waldron Sr. Obituary

Alphonso Alexius Waldron, affectionately known as “Cabeza,” passed away suddenly on Sunday, April 6, 2025 at the age of eighty.  Born on July 17, 1944 in Colón, Republic of Panama to Clarence Waldron and Sylvia Agatha Beresford Waldron, he was preceded in death by his beloved brothers: Franklin, Roderick, and Conway Waldron, and his daughter Nyqua.

Alphonso attended Abel Bravo High School in Colón.  In 1968, he migrated to the United States where he attended Brooklyn College for two years.  He came from a family of entrepreneurs, and following in those footsteps, he opened and ran a successful grocery store on Nostrand Avenue in Brooklyn for many years.

Eventually, Alphonso left Brooklyn and lived in various states, ultimately settling in Florida where he remained for many years. There, he worked with a moving company for over fifteen years. When the physical demands became too much, he transitioned into the transportation industry and became a driver for one of Florida’s largest transportation companies — a job he truly loved. He took great pride in his work and enjoyed the open road.

Alphonso had a deep love for cars. Whether it was changing brakes, rotors, alternators, starters, or CV joints — you name it, he could fix it.  He was a true self-taught mechanic who enjoyed getting under the hood and bringing cars back to life.

He also had a passion for photography. Whether at a family gathering, capturing a beautiful sunset, or simply observing the beauty in everyday life, Alphonso always had a camera in hands.  His photos were his way of preserving memories, and thanks to him, so many of those cherished moments live on.

A devoted sports fan, Alphonso loved watching boxing and basketball.  His favorite player was Kevin Durant whom he said reminded him of his son Anwar.  He also enjoyed classic Westerns and police shows, especially “Walker, Texas Ranger” and “In the Heat of the Night”.

Humble, grateful, and grounded, Alphonso always appreciated the love shown to him. In November 2024, he returned to Brooklyn where he was able to spend the holidays and special occasions surrounded by family and longtime friends.  Though he had been away for many years, he never stayed gone for long — he always made time to visit and reconnect with those he loved.

In his final chapter, he was cared for by his children who lovingly supported him and gave him comfort.  He cherished time spent with his grandchildren, creating memories that they will carry with them forever.

Alphonso was one of a kind — warm, kind-hearted, and always wearing a smile that could brighten any room. He never judged others, and made everyone feel seen, valued, and accepted just as they were. Alphonso “Cabeza” Waldron will be remembered for his smile, his generous spirit, his unwavering love for his family, and the quiet strength that touched the lives of all who knew him.

Alphonso Alexius Waldron, Sr. was called home to be with the Lord.  He leaves to mourn and cherish his memory, his daughters: Lissette (Richard), Tamara, and Qiana; his sons: Alphonso, Jr., Xavier (Kiya) Anwar (Monique), and Senen; his grandchildren: Naeem, Alicia, Marlee, Mia, Qianu, Chealyn, Aniya, Khari, Nyky, Lauren, Aaiden, Ava and Autumn Williams; great-grands: Nyle, Eternity and Ming; his brother Clarence (“Ciego”); sisters-in-law: Thelma, Cleo and Cecilia; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

Alphonso will be missed dearly, but his memory will live on forever!
