Ada Mae Farrington Thomas was born on July 28, 1941 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. She was the eldest child of (the late) Orzie Lee Farrington and Mildred Luella Bailey Farrington. Ada received her primary education in North Carolina, and graduated from Graham High School in 1960. She then relocated to Brooklyn, New York where she met, fell in love with and married (the late) Donald Thomas on March 10, 1962. From their union, two children were born: Stephen and Maris.
Ada Thomas furthered her education by attending John Jay College. She worked for a short time as a laundry attendant as well as a food server. In 1965, she began working at the State Liquor Authority retaining that position for over twenty-five years. When she left the State Liquor Authority, Ada took a clerical position at Kings County Hospital before working for the Unified Court System (Family Court) from which she retired in 2002.
Miss Ada was a faithful member of the St. Paul Community Baptist Church, participating in various ministries and classes including: Redemptive Turf, Bible Study, Laymen’s Choir, Daytime Ministry, and the Jewel Collective as a Precious Peridot.
Miss Ada loved to watch television, travel, spend time with family and visit friends. She was known throughout her community for being a sweet lady.
Ada succumbed to her illness on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at New York Presbyterian - Methodist Hospital in Brooklyn, New York. Three siblings preceded her in death: Arthur Lee, Billy and Carol Ann Farrington.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her son Stephen Thomas (Norma); her daughter Maris Mike (Daryl-Durl); her stepson Donald Steadman (Rita); her grandchildren: Markeith (Sabrina), Stephen, Jr. (Garrison), Darris, Maleeya and Anthony; her sibling, Sister Erma Farrington (Dennis); and sister-in-law Nellie Farrington -- both of Pittsboro, North Carolina; and a host of nephews, cousins, other relatives, church members and friends.
