Dolphina Neil-Jones was affectionately known as “Aunty Girlie”, “Dolcie”, and “Mother Neil”. She was born in Font Hill, Jamaica, West Indies on March 15, 1926 to (the late) John E.A. Neil and Jerusha Stanley Neil. She was preceded in death by her five sisters and four brothers. She married in 1980, and a few years later, her husband also predeceased her.
Mother Neil lived in the Bahamas for a time before moving to Brooklyn, New York. Living in Brooklyn, she worked as a Home Care Assistant, and loved her work in the Art Gallery. She also enjoyed cooking, sewing and baking.
Dolphina was called to service and also became an ordained minister who loved the Lord. She was a member of Emmaus Christian Community Church, and she was also a guest preacher at several churches in Brooklyn.
On Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at the age of ninety-two, the Reverend Dolphina Neil-Jones became absent from the body and present with the Lord. She leaves nieces, nephews, other family members and friends behind to celebrate her life and memory. Her smile, laughter and love for all will be greatly missed.
